Our New Set-Up
About a week into being here our computer screen broke! How you ask? Good question.
Little miss Remy was on the couch at the same time as the computer and the computer accidentally ended up on the floor. It was barely a one foot drop but it was some how just enough to bust the screen.
It was upsetting since this is our main source of communication. Adam needed to cool off and went for a walk. Remy totally thought she was going to get a punishment over this. Adam and I understood it was an accident and had no plans to punish her, but she didn't know that.
After Adam got back Remy came up to us and said, "I have a good idea, lets commune." Adam and I just looked at looked at each other. What was she talking about? She said to us, "you know, with the cracker and juice. We need to remember that Jesus took our punishment for us." Then she proceeded to make all of us take a bite of her cracker and sip of her milk. Way to pull the communion card, clever little girl.
The following week our friend Chad, who was already overseas for business, came for a visit. He's a computer guy and basically confirmed that the screen needed to be replaced.
During the same time Sam and Sara, students from the school, were on their way to Basel to visit Sara's family. They offered to look for a monitor for us at the secondhand shop there. We said thanks but no thanks and that we'd talk to Reto on Monday to see if he had one. We told them that we just didn't want to spend the extra money and left it at that.
Sunday night as we were all snuggled in bed we got a knock on our door. Adam got up, lights were still off and I heard whispering going back and forth. It sounded like Adam was talking to one of the Beatles, I figured it must be Sam since he's English.
Then Adam came back into the room with a computer monitor!
This is the story Sam told Adam:
He and Sara wanted to look for us anyway but never a got chance to because he had been feeling sick. Then they were at some random event and a guy walk up to Sara and said he was throwing out this monitor and asked her if she could use it.
I talked to Sara and the random event was some sort of Christian festival in Basel. It was over and she was helping clean up when the man said he was getting rid of it.
Craziness I know, but seriously, how good is God?!?! He knew our need and just provided it for us!
