Next week I'll be starting, rather revisiting, Celebration of Discipline. In 2008 our old church, The Ascent which is the City Place campus of Christ Fellowship in West Palm Beach, Florida, did a series on this book. We had moved to the North West months earlier so we actually bought the book and followed online via podcast. I loved it so much that I ended up doing the series with our girls at camp that summer. From what I could tell, they loved it too.
Now that we're looking at going into missions I've felt a strong desire to go back through this book and really dive into some of these practices. The first time around I saw some major break through in my life particularly when I fasted. As we go along in the book I'll probably get into some of those stories. My plan is to post on one or two of the disciplines each week and also post a podcast link whenever possible. I'll try to be consistent and post on a Wednesday or Friday. I'm excited about this and I hope you are too! I'm not gonna sugar coat it, it is a bit of a dry read but there are gems in here and wisdom that will transform your life and set you free from stuff that may have been holding you back. The book is broken up into three sections and so I'll be following that format as well.
Disciplines
Inward Outward Corporate
- Meditation - Simplicity - Confession
- Prayer - Solitude - Worship
- Fasting - Submission - Guidance
- Study - Service - Celebration
Please feel free to post comments through out the series. I'd love to hear your insights and stories. I do feel that it needs to be said, mostly for my own sake to be held accountable, that the reason for this sort of thing is never the breakthrough or being freed from issues, the reason is and should always be to draw into a deeper and more intimate relationship with the Lord. The breakthroughs are always the overflow of that closer relationship.
